We travelled to Gardiz close to the region where a French Canadian journalist was attacked in a nearby village. The Americans  had been bombing the mountains about three kilometres away. As we  drove back to base my journalist  stopped to make a satellite phone call.

In the distance,  several Apache helicopters were circling, a sign they are about to attack someone. The sensible thing would be to  put the camera on the ground in case it was mistaken for a shoulder launched missile.

After making several passes the helicopters flew away from us.
Then through the camera lens  I saw  trucks in the distance driving towards us with heavily armed men. Who were they , Northern Alliance or the insurgents ?

If you listen carefully  we are told:

"This is  enemy held territory ..................... the helicopter was going to shoot on
you".
